Susan and Oliver sing for Share a Dream Foundation.

By Sheila Fitzgerald.

An amazingly talented Country and Irish singer who has sung for two American Presidents and is the 2010 Hot Country Hall of Fame recipient will be appearing at Fernhill House Hotel, Clonakilty on Sunday night August 29th in aid of Share a Dream foundation.

Irelands first lady of song Susan McCann will be making the long trip to West Cork from her home in Newry to the delight of her legion of fans in the south of the country.

She has performed all over the world to great acclaim, citing appearances at the Strawberry Festival in Florida, USA as one of the highlights of her career. It was here she had the pleasure of singing for both George Bush senior and junior, indeed George Bush senior was so impressed by Susan, he asked her to sing Danny Boy especially for him. Appearances at Nashville’s famous Grand Ole Opry, London’s Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Stadium where she shared the stage with legends like Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Emmylou Harris, were annual events in her busy schedule. Susan has also toured Europe, Russia, and South Africa.

During her illustrious career which has spanned more than three decades, she has recorded more than 550 songs which are now being re released on the London HH Label. This will enable fans to purchase some of her older material which may not have been readily available, along with her more recent recordings.

She has just recently ventured into radio land and presents two daily shows; one which features country music and the other which is Irish oriented. You can catch Susan live on air or listen anytime on the following website;     www.susanmccann.com/susan-radio-shows.htm.

Sharing the bill with Susan, her husband Dennis, and Band, will be Barryroe native Oliver Buckley who is an exceptionally talented singer and musician. Providing the music for functions of all kinds for the past 42 years, Oliver remembers playing for £1 a night in the dancehalls of the 60s, and transporting his equipment around in a car before the days of state of the art vans. Fast forward forty odd years to 2010, he still loves playing, and provides an excellent mix of material to suit either a dancing or cabaret audience.

This outstanding nights entertainment organised by Ted Hayes is in aid of the Share a Dream Foundation which fundraises to enable terminally ill children enjoy a holiday of their choice with their families. It was founded by Shay Kinsella in 1989, and in the past 21 years has been instrumental in making dreams come true for hundreds of sick children.
